AMA, the highest skymarathon in Europe: the third edition is a true success!

The date of the third edition of the Monte Rosa SkyMarathon, the highest race in Europe, is set for June 20th, 2020.

500 athletes will compete starting from the village of Alagna up to the 4,554 m of the Capanna Regina Margherita, almost on top of Monte Rosa.

The route measures 35 km with 7,000 m of total altitude difference, through Walser hamlets, green meadows, then rock, snow and finally ice. An authentic, exciting experience, for the third year in the land where skyrunning is born.

Thanks to these unique characteristics, AMA immediately attracted international attention, both from the participants who arrived from 25 different countries last year, and from the media.

Popular at the point that to meet the requests to participate, the organizers had to increase the places available to 500, always guaranteeing an increasing effort in terms of safety along the track.

Next to the main race there will be the second edition of the AMA VK2, a vertical challenge that will take your breath away up to Punta Indren and back. A maximum of 300 athletes are admitted.

The race records set in 1994 by Fabio Meraldi and Gisella Bendotti, who reached Punta Gnifetti and returned to Alagna 4h24 ‘and 5h35’ respectively, remain unbeaten.

Only Emelie Forsberg competing in mixed pairs with Kilian Jornet in the first 2018 edition challenged the reigning champions, marking the best female performance with 31 ‘less than the historical time of Gisella Bendotti.

Needless to say, the places available for AMA have already sold out just a few days after the registration opens.

But if you are among the athletes who intend to take part in this challenge, you can still rush to get a place in AMA VK2.

If instead you are among the lovers of Monte Rosa, we suggest you plan your day in Alagna to attend the race.

We assure you that the emotion is not only for those who run, but is transmitted to the whole country and to the eyes of the beholder!
