800 years of the walser community

In Sion, Switzerland, an ancient document dating back to 1219 is preserved, in which Gressoney is mentioned for the first time. The document is kept in the archives of the Bishop of the cathedral of Sion: at the time the vassal of the Bishop, a certain Carlo Dalla Porta, wrote that document in which he recorded and documented the possession and management of the lands in Gressoney in the name and on behalf of the Bishop. This document shows that the Gressoney community already existed in 1219 and that is why on 29 September 2019 there will be celebrations to commemorate the 800 years of the Walsers with music and dances. For the occasion, the ladies are required to wear the typical and precious Gressoney costume to preserve the culture that has been handed down for so many years.
