On 25 June, the Monte Rosa SkyMarathon – AMA, the highest skyrunning race in Europe, returns to Alagna Valsesia.

Running up and down on Monterosa, the return of the most incredible marathon ever is upon us! 350 pairs of world-class athletes, coming from 38 different countries of the world, will compete on the Alagna-Margherita-Alagna route with 7000 m of altitude difference and 35 km of pure adrenaline.

The Monte Rosa SkyMarathon is an international skyrunning competition that takes place in Alagna Valsesia. An exciting and long-awaited race, to be covered in pairs, which follows the original route completed for the first time in 1993.

It starts from Alagna Valsesia (1192 m) and ends the race at Capanna Margherita (4554 m) passing through Bocchetta delle Pisse, Punta Indren station, Rifugio Gnifetti and finally from Colle del Lys.

The route develops over a difference in height of 7000 m and covers a total distance of 35 km between climbs, descents, trails, ski slopes and glaciers.

A unique event in the world, in pure skyrunning style, for athletes who love to run in the mountains and want to test themselves in a tough race that will make them touch the sky with a finger crossing moraines, snow-covered paths and glaciers.

An exciting, authentic experience that has always attracted the greatest skyrunning athletes and ski mountaineering champions from all over the globe.

Rock, snow and ice will accompany the athletes during this challenge of international caliber: this is what will animate Monte Rosa on 25 June, an event not to be missed.

The first edition of the AMA (Alagna-Monterosa-Alagna) was in 1992.

In 1994 the Italians Fabio Meraldi and Gisella Bendotti set the records, still unbeaten, who completed the course in 4h 24 ‘and 5h 35’.

The race was relaunched in 2018 with a new format, in which competitors compete in pairs, tied for safety reasons and wear micro-crampons at the top of the course.

In addition to the pairs race, the #MonteRosaSkyMarathon, the # AMAVK2, an individual race that reaches 3,260 m at the Indren Station, is also part of the format of the event.

The route starts from Alagna Valsesia (1192 m) passing from Bocchetta delle Pisse (2396 m), up to Indren Station (3260 m), for a total length of 9 km and 2086 m of elevation gain.

A vertical challenge to take your breath away that will take place the same weekend!
